January is National Bible Month

Do you know that this month of January is celebrated as the National Bible Month?

DCAGC’s executive minister Dr. Levi P. Quir mentioned during his Sunday service message that January is considered as National Bible Month.

He said the Bible or Holy Scripture is very important. It serves as the identity of Christian believers. It is also the fountain of truth, he added.

Through the Scriptures, God is revealed. And God is a self-revelation God; He is a Sovereign God, Quir explained.

The executive minister narrated the history of this national celebration by our past government leaders.

Through separate resolutions, the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) and the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC) have declared January as National Bible Month. This effectively extends and expands the scope of the yearly commemoration since 2008 it carries the theme God’s Word: Source of Justice, Reconciliation and Peace.

Much has transpired in the 26 years since former President Ferdinand Marcos declared through Presidential Proclamation No. 2242 that a whole week in November 1982 will be set aside to celebrate God’’s Word. Then in 1986, President Corazon Aquino amended the order through Presidential Proclamation No. 44, moving the celebration to the last week of January of every year. In the subsequent administration of President Fidel Ramos, he issued an edict superseding this law– in Presidential Proclamation No. 1067 — which cited the Bible as an excellent source of life-giving principles to develop a value-oriented, morally strong and socially responsible citizenry. Thus, it should be given a fitting attention and importance by all sectors of society, and not just by the church.

Indeed as members of the society, we need to take responsibility on this matter by encouraging everyone to read, meditate, and hear God’s Word, delight in His Word, and treasure the Holy Scriptures since the Bible is perfect and true.

For two months, the theme of Davao City Alliance Gospel Church will focus on Psalm 19:9-10 “The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are sure, and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey than honey from the comb.”

Have a blessed day everyone!
