(Rev. Leo Aniversario’s testimony of his two sons as narrated to VM reporter Apple Mae E. Cayubin)

It has been said that the lives of righteous people will always experience God through their prayers. As part of his testimony, Rev. Leo Aniversario shares his amazing story on how God has been working in his life by giving him several trials that will ultimately get healed by God’s mercy.

In 2002, Rev. Leo’s wife was six-months pregnant to their second child named Levi III “L3”. But during that early stage, the baby seemed to be in a hurry to get out of his mother’s womb. Scientifically, this might cause abnormalities in some cases. Thus, they consulted an OB-Gyn practitioner, which later led to the early birth delivery of his wife.

Though there were no medical problems found during the delivery of the baby, the baby needs an incubator since it was considered premature. However, there was no available incubator in their place. They were given a choice, instead. First, to go to a far-flung hospital that has an available incubator but nurses who can guard the baby’s condition. The other choice was to just let the baby stay in that hospital with nurses who can take care of the baby but they should frequently visit their baby and let him stay on a so-called “drop-light”.

Naturally, they chose the second option to avoid the possibilities that it might be too late when the former was chosen.

Consequently, Rev. Leo guarded his second son and daily went back to the hospital to feed the baby with a mother’s milk until they were already allowed to go home.

One day, the doctor requested for an emergency call to the baby’s parents because their baby reportedly died 10 minutes ago. Thank God the baby was revived to life but with side effects. part of his Right brain was affected due to lack of oxygen od that 10 minutes arrest. Of course, Rev. Leo was completely upset seeing his baby’s situation that way.

But by God’s grace and through the prayers of the church, the baby was released after 25 days and was declared out of danger. Regular check-ups was constantly done to the baby. Not long after, it was discovered that their baby had some abnormalities in his heart and carries a bigger head. Because of the situation, another intensive prayer was done by Rev. Leo and his family together with the church. After a week, they returned to the doctor and the result was given. The doctor was truly amazed when he saw the sick baby whom she checked last week was completely healed already. Praise God for that!

When they moved to Bukidnon for a new ministry area, his son has been discovered to be asthmatic due to the bad weather in that place. And so, they transferred to Butuan City. But when the neurologist tried to check the health of their son, he found out that their son will be having difficulty to walk. For 3 years, indeed, the young child found it difficult to walk or carry his head and crawl. But Rev. Aniversario tried to apply therapy to his son to temporarily help strengthen the little child’s joints and muscles.

Prayers are their only weapon and hope that their son can soon walk and experience a normal life someday.

One night, his little boy and the yaya were watching a movie in their living room. The movie was about a horse that fell on a cliff with the child riding on it; the child in that movie became paralyzed but she really tried her best to walk again until finally she walked and began riding with her horse again.

Rev. Leo’s son was challenged by his yaya when she said, “Nakita mo yun? Bata pa lang siya, marunong nang sumakay ng kabayo at tumatakbo pa. Ikaw, 3 years old na, hindi pa din nakakalakad.”

So, after several days, he practiced walking with the use of the chair since he was really challenged by his yaya. He used the chair to assist him in walking. And not many days have passed, he can walk with his own feet finally!

Another incident took place during the Mission’s Emphasis Week Celebration of their church. During their preparation for the following day’s program, Rev. Leo and their guest speaker found the time to chat to each other at the parsonage.

The location of the parsonage was just in front of the church which was a not-so-busy highway across them. While the members of the church were busy preparing their booths, Rev. Leo saw his first son Mishael Lew who was about to cross the street. Rev. Leo heard an incoming motorcycle driving very fast, which made him shout to his son to stop crossing the street. But his son failed to obey him that caused the motorcycle to bump his young child and threw him to a far place. The injury was added while the child was still rolling down the road; the motorcyle failed to use an emergency break and that led to another terrible accident on his child.

Rev. Leo hurriedly ran to his son. He was forced to destroy their gate made of bamboo while going towards his helpless son. As a former PT student, he knew somehow how to handle this case. But he did not try to touch any parts of his son’s body. He just commanded the motorcycle’s driver to bring them to the nearest hospital.

While at the hospital, the attending physician immediately accommodated them at the Emergency Room. The doctor checked his son’s body and, lo and behold, the doctor asked Rev. Leo if they were really sure that his son was bumped by a motorcycle. Several physical examinations were done to his son’s condition but still the doctor found no severe injuries as expected after the great impact. Then finally, the doctor just gave the child some medications for his minor scratches and open wounds.

It may sound funny to think about the situation but for Rev. Leo it was actually God’s hands who touched and healed his son’s body. To God be the glory forever!
